HISTORY MADE IN GLENROTHES

South Lanarkshire’s last remaining brass band; Coalburn Silver Band has had the most notable result in their 108 year history at last weekends Scottish Championships.

The band who were Scottish Champions in the 3rd section last year, were promoted to the 2nd section and were competing for the first time in the 2nd section. The band was up against another 11 bands in a very competitive field. Drawn 11th and on stage in the Rothes theatre around 7.30pm the band played a wonderful interpretation of the set work ‘A Kingdom of Dragons’ under the baton of their musical director Gareth Bowman.

The Coalburn contingent erupted when the results placed them in 2nd position behind the Dalkeith Band, the icing was put on the cake when the band’s solo cornet player Joel Harding was presented with the medal for Best Instrumentalist, beating of competition from over 300 other musicians.

Band president Alan Court was on hand to collect the ……….. trophy from adjudicator………    The result means that the band will again be representing Scotland at the British Brass Band Championships at Harrogate in September and will promote into the 1st Section of the Scottish Brass Band Association rankings.
