COALBURN SILVER BAND
AWARDS NIGHT JAN 2010

Saturday January 30th 2010 was the night for Coalburn Silver Band’s first ever awards night. The event held in the band’s newly refurbished band hall celebrated the most successful year in the band’s history. Band members, family members and supporters packed the hall and were treated to a beautiful buffet prior to the main awards ceremony.

SBBA Development Officer Alan Edmond was the special guest and presented the prizes. The first award was for that of Band’s person of the year, this award is voted for by band members to recognise a band member who has given an exceptional contribution to the band over the past year, the winner with a land slide vote was Band Secretary Daniel Beadle.

The next award was the ‘George Blackwood Memorial Trophy’ presented to the most improved member of the Bronze (development) Band, this was presented by Christine Blackwood to Ailsa Frew. The remaining awards were decided by the bands musical director Gareth Bowman, the first of these was section of the year and although fiercely contested went to the horn section. The most improved player of the year went to the bands Solo Trombone player Elizabeth Meikle with the final award of the night going to the player of year, this was presented to the bands Flugel Horn player Alex Sheridan who is pictured with Alan Edmond.

A fabulous night was brought to a conclusion with an inspiring and encouraging  address from Alan Edmond, the band are already looking forward to next years event!
