COALBURN ENTERTAIN IN HARROGATE

Scottish Champion Brass Band, Coalburn Silver Band travelled to the beautiful Spa town of Harrogate last weekend to represent Scotland at the British Brass Band Championships.

The band was given a set piece entitled ‘Oceans’ by Goff Richards. This music had been graded for championship band only a few years ago and proved a real challenge for the band and their musical director Gareth Bowman.

On a dry and overcast morning the band made the short walk from the hotel to the International Conference Centre where they had been drawn to play 2nd of the 17 competing bands.

The band took to the stage confident and focussed and delivered a fabulous interpretation of the work, receiving numerous positive comments from the audience supporters and media.

The talk around the hall and in the brass band world was that the Coalburn performance would be a clear winner, as the adjudicators announced the results it became evident that they did not conform to the general feeling around the hall and the band were placed 5th and presented with a certificate commemorating this achievement.

The adjudicators’ remarks were very encouraging and the band left in good spirits as they face the challenge of competing in the 2nd section for the 1st time in their history. Sincere thanks go to all band members and supporters along with the local businesses who assisted financially

The band are performing at Sandyholm Garden Centre this Thursday 8th October and thereafter will head to the Borders Entertainment Contest, to be held in Peebles on the 31st October and then to the Scottish Open Championship at the Perth Concert Hall on the 28th November..
