COALBURN SILVER BAND TRIUMPH IN FIFE

Scottish brass band champions, coalburn silver band added to their haul of silverware last saturday 25th april at the fife brass band festival held within the carnegie hall, dunfermline.

Coalburn played a challenging and entertaining programme, opening with the impressive ‘valero’, the band then changed the mood playing music from the movie 49th parallel, this slow item featured cornet and euphonium. The band conducted on the day by their musical director gareth bowman continued with their feature item a trombone quartet entitled ‘its all right’ and it certainly was with a fantastic performance delivered by colin taylor, kyle mccorquodale, elizabeth meikle and erik kerr. The finale was a selection of music from the film pirates of the caribbean.

The band’s own johnny depp, band secretary daniel beadle was on stage to collect the 3rd section trophy when the awards were announced later in the evening. Such was the standard of the coalburn performance they beat all but one of the second section bands and the majority of the first section bands.

Coalburn silver band now looks forward to their forthcoming concert ‘a night at the movies’ to be held this saturday 9th may at east kilbride old parish church, montgomery street, the village, east kilbride. The concert begins at 7.30p.m. doors open at 7p.m. tickets are priced £5 and £3 and are available from the resource centre, lesmahagow or on the door on the night of the concert.
