Coalburn Silver Band is the only surviving brass band in the South Lanarkshire area, having its roots in the coal mining industry.
It was formed in 1902, as a public subscription band and with brief spells of inactivity spanning the two world wars, has been "blowing" ever since.
Originally playing members were all local people but now, with the exception of a handful of players from Coalburn we find the bulk of our members now travel from East Kilbride, Hamilton, Larkhall, Lesmahagow, Symington and even Shotts. We are constantly recruiting and would welcome anyone with an interest in brass to join either our Junior or senior bands.
The band have had many successes over the years, the most notable being the Scottish championship 4th section success in 1971 when the band were victorious in Aberdeen. More recently the band took second place at the Scottish Championships (4th Section) in 2005 which saw us qualify for the British Championships as well as gaining promotion to the 3rd Section. The Band were also delighted to be awarded 4th Section Band of the Year by SBBA in 2005.
Since promotion to the 3rd Section the band have won the 3rd Section prize at the Borders Contest, come 3rd at the Scottish Championships and taken 2nd place at the Fife Festival of Brass.
Coalburn Silver are the only remaining band in the south Lanarkshire area and the committee are committed to keep the history and traditions of banding alive for sometime to come. We are a dynamic band with loads to offer and warmly welcome all lovers of brass to our friendly, successful and most sociable band scene.
