I began playing trombone when i was a pupil at Lesmahagow high school, here i received lessons from Jim Park. I then went on to study music at Napier University, Edinburgh where i received trombone lessons from Brian Free who was second trombonist with the R.S.N.O. at this time.  I then went on to study at the R.S.A.M.D.  where i received trombone lessons from Lance Green who was at that time principal trombonist with the R.S.N.O.   My Qualifications gained are, A.L.C.M.  L.L.C.M.(t.d.), H.N.D in musical studies and a B.A. Musical studies.

Since 1998 when i graduated from the  R.S.A.M.D.  I have worked with South-Lanarkshire council as a brass instructor.  I have mainly been involved with wind bands, having tutored the Lanarkshire Orchestral Society until 2003 when I left to have my family. I also played for 10 years in the Motherwell symphonic wind Band conducted by Hughina Naylor, during my time we won various competitions and toured many places in Europe.  The Band Folded in 2007.

I am now looking for a new challenge and i seem to have found it with the Coalburn Bronze Band. We have already been involved in Brass in The Park where we finally got out of the band hall and played in public.  We have a few things lined up over the next few months including the Scottish Youth Band Championships in Perth on Sunday the 29th November 2009.

We are always looking for new talent so don't worry if you do not have the skills needed for Silver Band yet, or if you have never tried playing a brass instrument but always wanted to, come along to the bronze band on a Wednesday evening at 6.30 - 8.30. Venue Is the Masonic Hall in Lesmahagow until our New Band Hall is Completed.
